Srirangam……intricately carved pillars ……..exquisite architecture…..traditions….festivity

Srirangam, first of Vaishnavite’s 108 Divya Desam location in Tamil Nadu of India speaks volumes of expertise of those unique traditions of music, art, sculpture, paintings and festivity.

In a calendar year on 322 days Srirangam Hindu temple is filled with celebrations of colorful festivals and indeed each and every festival is of great significance. Moreover its exquisite architecture, paintings and exclusive sculpture style attracts tourists from across globe.

This uniqueness is due to the fact that various dynasties of kings (the Cholas, the Pandyas, the Nayakas, the Hoysalas, the Pallavas and the Vijayanagara) ruled this place and each era of their rules saw the introduction different architectural styles and system beliefs.

I traveled to this unique place on 9th March of 2019. Indeed a fascinating destination for pillar architecture and stone sculpture. At some places inside the temple renovation work was going on.

I share here some of the pictures of sculptures that I liked and clicked very much which speak volumes of rich architecture styles and sculpture perfection.

while returning after a wonderful visit to Srirangam Hindu temple I was recollecting how true the words of Michelangelo
“Every block of stone has a statue inside it and it is the task of the sculptor to discover it.”

“The true work of art is but a shadow of the divine perfection”. Michelangelo

  2. Beautiful pictures. I had heard photography is not allowed in Sri rangam. Is it allowed? Planning to visit in future, that’s why I am asking.

  3. When I see architecture like this, I’m amazed how there’s barely a square inch of unchiseled space. And I try to imagine the number of artisans working together on these huge structures… and for how long to complete there works. Many thanx for sharing.
